We're now into our third week of swimming lessons. Callie and Carter have both moved on to new levels with Carter moving from Parent and Tot into the Pre-School levels. I believe his first class is called Barnacle which seems appropriate since they still like to cling to the walls. His first week went very well with three kids in the class and two not showing up. He got a private lesson and moved quickly through the various skills. His teacher is perfect for this age group. Very animated and great with the kids. There have been a total of four kids in the class and Carter seems pretty good at all the skills. I don't think he'll have any troubles passing.
Callie isn't doing quite as good but considering her class ranges from her age all the way up to kids in Grade 7 I'm not too worried. She was quite nervous even before the first lesson but I was proud of her approach. We went to the pool three times the week before her first lesson and she slowly worked up the courage to go into the big pool. (With a small bribe of Dairy Queen to give her the extra boost.) She put her feet in the first day, went in with a life jacket on day two and finally went in sans life jacket on day three. She's stays close to the edge most of the time but has let her teacher help her with her torpedo and back float. We'll have to do a bit more coaching at Disneyland this summer to get her ready for her next set.
